Throughout the winter, Southwell has been represented in the Nottinghamshire Amateur & Professional Golfers’ Alliance. 22 clubs from throughout the county have taken part in the event and the final Order of Merit table sees Southwell in 6th place – a truly fantastic achievement for a small club. This means that we have qualified for the final event of the season, the Harry Brown Trophy which will be played in just under 2 weeks time. Obviously, good luck to the team from all of the members.
Not only has the team performed so well but we have enjoyed some great individual successes with James Hogg winning the Jubilee Cup and Iain McFadyen the Rufford Cup. 236 Amateurs have played in 12 fixtures throughout the season and Iain ended the season in 7th place and James in 10th place – both truly excellent performances.
A special mention must be made of Richard Drinkwater. Richard has taken it upon himself to organise our team which participates in the Alliance and anyone on the Alliance WhatsApp group will know what a tremendous effort he has made. Messages, calls, regular pleas for players….Richard has worked tirelessly throughout the winter and owes a lot of credit for making sure we have had such a successful season – Thanks Colonel!!!
