As Captain of Southwell Golf Club for the 2013/14 season, I would like to welcome you to our website.

All members are proud of the unique nature of our club and time after time, we are praised for the warm welcome received by all visitors.  We hold a number of Open Competitions, details of which can be found on this website and we would encourage as many golfers as possible to play in these events and experience at first-hand the friendly nature of the club.

2013 marks the 20thanniversary of the club’s opening, originally as a 9-hole course on what is now the current back 9.  The course has developed tremendously over the years and continues to provide challenges to golfers of all abilities.  The front 9 holes sit within Southwell Racecourse and the main challenge is avoiding the many water hazards.  Our signature hole, the 7th, can ruin many medal cards.  Although only a shortish par 3, a tee shot over water to an island green, normally accompanied by a gusting wind, is not for the faint hearted and you will be pleased to walk off with a par!!  The back 9 holes are characterised by tree-lined fairways, where  accuracy off the tees is rewarded and should help you to a good score.

In the clubhouse, you can relax pre and post round whilst enjoying excellent views of the 10thand 18th holes.  After some 20 years at the club, our long-standing Steward, Bernie Forbes is taking up a new venture and all members would like to thank Bernie for the excellent contribution he has made to the club.  At the same time, we look forward to a new era with our new Steward, Richard Lloyd who I know is keen to maintain and enhance the reputation we enjoy for the quality of our food.

Our PGA professional, Chris White, runs a well-stocked pro-shop and provides coaching for members and non-members, with lessons suitable for all golfers ranging from complete beginners to scratch golfers.

On behalf of my fellow Captains, Maureen Todd (Lady Captain), Mick Foster (Senior Captain) and Calum Law (Junior Captain), I would like to wish you an enjoyable golfing year and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the club.
