Captain’s Welcome

CAPTAIN’S WELCOME

As Captain of Southwell Golf Club for 2017-18 I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all visitors knowing that you will have an enjoyable experience on the course as well as in the friendly atmosphere of our modern club house. For the horse racing enthusiast, why not enjoy the experience of both sports.

The Club has a challenging and interesting course design which caters for the low handicapper as well as the general club player of either sex. The course is split into two nines, one within the racecourse and the other in tree lined parkland that offer different challenges incorporating ponds and tight boundaries on the racecourse nine and ditches and tight, tree-lined fairways on the parkland nine. Our greens are renowned throughout the county for their shape and design where pitching accuracy is rewarded.

There are several open competitions spread throughout the year for men, ladies and seniors. I would encourage visitors to take part in these competitions and enjoy a day at Southwell and sample the warmth of welcome provided by our members who always offer a competitive but friendly challenge. Our Charity Day is to support the NSPCC and Battle Batten charities. Our Men’s Open provides top prizes at 4 of our par 3,s for a hole in one, including a car for a hole in one on the18th. Please see the competitions section of the website or ring the pro shop for further information. It would be great to meet you and your friends at these competitions.

The facilities include the club house, which was opened in 2007, which is run by our steward Bernie Forbes and his enigmatic team who offer a friendly and professional welcome to all. The fully licenced bar and catering facilities will compliment your golfing experience. Extensive free parking, practice putting green, driving net, practice bunker and practice area are additional amenities on offer. In addition there are light and airy ladies and gents changing rooms together with a fully equipped Pro Shop run by PGA professional Jasen Barker who is always available for tuition or advice with your golfing needs.

Golfers interested in membership are invited to come and play a round with any of our Captains and discover the true qualities of the Club. Contact our Professional’s shop to arrange the details. Southwell Golf Club benefits from members who pride themselves in the quality of their club and generate a friendly atmosphere renowned throughout the county. Myself, Lady captain Linda Mason and Dave Archer the Senior Captain very much look forward to welcoming you to our great club.
