Captains’ Drive-In cancelled
In light of the rapidly evolving Covid-19 situation and the continued advice from the government and health professionals to social distance, it has been decided to cancel the drive-in competition on Sunday 29th March. We hope all members will understand this decision has not been taken lightly. It is disappointing for everyone, particularly the three incoming Captains, Iain McFadyen, Chris Gibson and John Bentley but all three are in agreement with the decision and we feel that to play the event would be against the advice of experts with far greater knowledge than us of the disease and the actions we should be taking.
The competition would have been well-attended with fourballs on every tee and doubling-up on the 5th and 14th tees. That is a total of 80 competitors and despite all of our best intentions, we know it would not be feasible to social distance for the duration of the event. England Golf has cancelled its own major competitions until June so we are simply trying to follow the best advice and put the health of our members and the wider community first.
Members and visitors can continue to play golf as the course remains open and we are rigidly adopting the guidelines laid down by England Golf. A medical professional was speaking on the radio yesterday and suggesting the virus may be less virulent in the outside, particularly in sunshine but also cautioned against being close to other people. Therefore, we see no reason why you should not continue to come to the course to play but please do try and stay at least 2 metres away from your playing companions.
Naturally, we will continue to keep everyone informed but please stay safe and take care.
